I worked full time at a comprehensive Catholic school in West London. My duties as a music administrator included: concert management and publicity, writing programme notes, managing the 400 instrumental lessons that take place in the School each week and the 35 peripatetic staff who teach them, co-ordinate the School’s Evening Recital series and ABRSM examinations and administrating the Department’s finances. I also participated in the school’s music-making (which included performances of Bach’s St Matthew Passion and Sibelius’s 5th Symphony, with Southbank Sinfonia) - teaching the oboe and performing in school concerts, as required.
My role in communications was primarily concerned with social media and marketing, with particular focus on the school’s upcoming centenary celebrations in 2014. I maintained the school’s website, updating content (text, video and images – edited using Adobe Audition and Photoshop) on a daily basis. I designed and implemented the school’s social media strategy – it now has a visible and ever-expanding presence on Twitter, Facebook, Instagram, Vimeo and Flickr. I also commissioned and oversaw the production of promotional films for the school, as well as implementing a network of display screens throughout the school, complete with full social media integration, in collaboration with the IT Department.
